IN THE NEWS

The Sun reports that Jimmy White will be a contestant on ITV's jungle-based reality show I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here later in the year.

They reported the same thing last year and it didn't happen.

Meanwhile, there's an interesting Q&A with Jack Lisowski, this year's Paul Hunter scholar, on the Eurosport website where he talks about his career so far and, somewhat unusually for a snooker player, gives an analysis of the global economic downturn.

Why is there never any snooker news on worldsnooker.com?

It must be the poorest website for any sports governing body.

David, sorry to go off topic. But what is the OneFourSeven newsletter? Is it World Snooker's newsletter only for professional players?

Not sure, I've never seen it

It will be good to get snooker stars of yesteryear on reality TV. It can only add to the exposure of the game. That said it's a bit disappointing that we've no real characters in the game today that can promote snooker the way White can.

Jimmy will not be apearing on Im a Celebrity get me out of here bang in the middle of the Snooker season..

and i think it will clash with the UK Championship Qualifiers anyway.

"That said it's a bit disappointing that we've no real characters in the game today"

That's not at all an extremely trite and lazy thing to say!

Excluding the invitational event in Kerry,Ireland and the 6 ball tournament in Thailand my recall was Jimmy White made £13k in prize money in the 2008/9 season. So I think if he was offered £50,000 to appear and made a working assumption he would get paid interviews when leaving and/or an advert he would do it. I think the factors putting him off would be how many exhibitions at £2.5k a pop he might have booked during this time and how should we say this whether he could brush his hair in the morning off camera.

Even if it doesn't clash with any qualifiers I couldn't see him taking the time out to do that in the very season where we're told he's really taking the game seriously and practicing more regularly again.
(Unless they install a snooker table in the jungle, that is)

Just took the time to read Jack's interview. When I saw him during the feature at Sheffield I was very impressed with him and the way he came across. This only reaffirms my view, a snooker player who reads the Economist and the Times and who clearly has been humbled by the things that have happened to him. I'm not sure he'll fit in with the Sun/Star reading majority amongst the top pros, but that can only be a good thing, I wish him all the luck in the world and will follow his career with interest.

Hi Dave,

Mr White changed his name to Mr Brown for the 2005 Masters at Wembley, to promote HP Sauce.

I would definitely say, the Whirlwind will enter the jungle. Regardless of commitments.

Thanks, Joe

joe

so you think jimmy has given up on his snooker carear and is looking to the future as some sort of tarsan kissagram lol

It's been well documented that Willie Thorne will enter the jungle this year, having turned down the chance last year. Should be fun watching WT and Jimmy doing some bushtucker trials.

Jimmy has confirmed to me that he will take part... BUT only if he doesn't qualify for the final stages of the UK Championships.

If he's through to Telford then no way will he take part.
